SUMMARY:AMDC Seminar Series: Dr. Lorena Saelices\, UT Southwestern\, Medic
 al Center
LOCATION:Dell Butcher Hall\, Dell Butcher Hall
DESCRIPTION:A bit about The Saelices Laboratory: The Saelices Laboratory i
s devoted to the study of systemic amyloid diseases—disorders caused by t
he misfolding of specific proteins that aggregate into amyloid fibrils an
d deposit in various peripheral organs. These deposits disrupt tissue arc
hitecture and function\, ultimately leading to organ failure and death. T
hese conditions are often underdiagnosed\, complex\, and challenging to t
reat. Their research aims to understand the structural basis and the biol
ogy of amyloid formation and its precursors\, and to develop clinical too
ls for early detection and inhibition of amyloids.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.ap
