SUMMARY:A Musical Wunderkammer: Kircher's Sound Universe
LOCATION:A. D. White House\, 29 East Ave\, Ithaca\, NY 14850\, USA
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by Kircher's celebrated cabinet of curiosities\, this
experimental musical salon brings his sonic imagination to life through
performances\, demonstrations\, and encounters between historical instrum
ents\, mechanical devices\, and contemporary technologies. Historical com
positions will meet newly generated music\, including experiments with Ki
rcher's Arca musarithmica\, his seventeenth-century system for algorithmi
c composition. A sound installation extends Kircher's world of marvels in
to the present\, exploring natural phenomena\, animal voices\, cosmic har
monies\, and the sounds of our technological surroundings. Together\, the
se experiences invite audiences to question where music begins\, who or w
hat produces it\, and how we listen.\n\nWith Andrew Cashner\, Annette Ric
 hards\, David Yearsley\, Federico Ercoli\, Jacob Matthews\, Marcos Kriege
 r\, Patricia García Gil\, and Roger Moseley.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/even
