SUMMARY:From SuperAging to preclinical Alzheimer’s disease: how spatial na
vigation can help uncover mechanisms of cognitive aging
LOCATION:Human Ecology Building T01
DESCRIPTION:Deficits with spatial navigation are a hallmark of healthy agi
ng\, which can compromise mobility and independence. In addition\, wander
ing behavior is the second most common behavioral deficit in advanced Alz
heimer’s disease (AD)\, and path integration has been proposed as a sensi
tive indicator for detecting patients at increased risk of AD. In this ta
lk\, I will present a series of studies with human participants combining
blood biomarker analysis\, immersive virtual reality and functional / mo
lecular neuroimaging. Using a biologically inspired computational model\,
I will show how errors in path integration are not only more pronounced
in patients with preclinical AD\, but that the sources of error change wi
th disease progression. Moreover\, I will discuss how compromised grid ce
ll computations might contribute to deficits in both navigation and episo
 dic memory.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/094b62cb-c578-44f5-8068-306c75
