SUMMARY:IEEE Keynote Speaker Series - Realistic Propagation Models For Ris
 -Enabled Communication Channels
LOCATION:Sign in to download the location
DESCRIPTION:Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) can redirect incide
nt waves to selected directions in a wireless communication channel\, to
improve coverage bypassing obstructing objects. This presentation introdu
ces a hybrid approach that enables the accurate analysis of RIS-enabled c
ommunication channels in rich scattering\, realistic environments. Our hy
brid method combines the full-wave analysis of the RIS as a diffuse scatt
erer\, with the computational efficiency of ray-tracing to obtain accurat
e field predictions in the near and far field region of the RIS at multip
le states\, accounting for multipath propagation paths towards and from t
he RIS. A convolutional neural network is presented to efficiently comput
e scattered fields from RISs. We present validation studies based on refe
rence full-wave simulations and an extensive indoor measurement campaign.
