SUMMARY:Hallowed Grounds: Monuments and Memorials to Abraham Lincoln
LOCATION:Morris Library Lincoln Exhibition Case\, Morris Library\, Univers
 ity of Delaware\, Newark\, DE 19716\, USA
DESCRIPTION:Among American presidents\, Abraham Lincoln is one of the most
frequent subjects of monuments and acts of commemoration that celebrate
his life and legacy. Far beyond Illinois\, the famed “Land of Lincoln\,”
statues and memorials to the sixteenth president pepper the nation’s land
scape. Long before Lincoln's birthday was a federal holiday\, local group
s and clubs held festive dinners every February to mark his birth and cel
ebrate his contributions to the nation. From log cabins and law offices t
o taverns and courthouses\, buildings associated with Lincoln have been b
randed with historical markers and turned into sites of heritage tourism.
\n\nOrganized in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American indepen
dence\, Hallowed Grounds draws from the Lincoln Club of Delaware’s Abraha
m Lincoln Collection in Special Collections to explore how and why Lincol
n is honored and remembered across generations. Through books\, event pro
grams\, menus\, maps and ephemera\, visitors are invited to explore the m
any shrines and tributes to Lincoln across our land and reflect on the un
ique place he holds in American memory.\n\nHallowed Grounds is on view fr
om August 25 through December 18\, 2026\, in the Lincoln Exhibition Case\
, which is located outside the Special Collections Gallery in Morris Libr
ary. The exhibition is free and open to the public during the Library’s r
 egular hours.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/1abd6bc4-5996-46e7-83b4-f4b5
