SUMMARY:Peter-Michael Huber: Are Our Democracies Resilient Enough?
LOCATION:Gasson Hall 100\, Gasson Hall\, Chestnut Hill\, MA 02467
DESCRIPTION:Peter-Michael Huber\n\nPeter-Michael Huber has held the Chair
of Public Law and State Philosophy at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University M
unich since 2002. Previously\, he taught at the universities of Münster\,
  Augsburg\, Jena and Erlangen-Nuremberg. From 2010 to 2023\, Huber was a
judge at the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe. In 2009 and 2010
he worked as Thuringian Minister of the Interior.\n\nIn Germany in the tw
enty-first century\, liberal democracy enjoys widespread support. But acc
ording to former federal constitutional judge Peter-Michael Huber\, growi
ng polarization among the German people may imperil the very rule of law
upon which the country’s political order depends. At a time when polariza
tion is on the rise in Western Europe and the wider democratic world\, th
e implications of Professor Huber’s analysis are significant.\n\nThis eve
nt is co-sponsored by German Studies.\n\nPlease register to attend.\n\nht
