SUMMARY:Behind the Publication with Dr. Josh Wilburn
LOCATION:Center for Gender and Sexuality
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Center for Gender and Sexuality for our second
session of Behind the Publication\, a behind-the-scenes workshop series
on faculty research in gender and sexuality.\n\nThe series continues with
Dr. Josh Wilburn\, Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy.
Dr. Wilburn's research focuses on how ancient Greek views on race and gen
der intersect with their views on politics and human psychology. His most
recent research explores 20th century writer Langston Hughes and the phi
losophy of race\, racism\, and political identity in the United States th
at he develops through his essays and literary work over the course of hi
s career.\n\nFor this talk\, Dr. Wilburn will share from his experience w
riting "Amazons in Magnesia: Racialized Gender and Political Psychology i
n Plato’s Laws."\n\nAbout the series: The central goal of this series is
to offer graduate and undergraduate students a series of informal worksho
ps where faculty encourage and demystify research by sharing their own ex
periences. We invite WSU faculty members to share a little about the gene
sis of their current or recent research. We ask them to discuss the joys
and frustrations of the project\; to elaborate on the decisions around th
e scope of the work\; to assess methodological questions\; to discuss wri
ting practices\; to highlight the importance of colleagues\, librarians\,
friends\, and other interlocutors more generally for their work\; and to
offer tips and strategies to help students through their own projects\n\
