SUMMARY:Conversation Hour: Talk\, Connect\, Practice
LOCATION:Clough 447
DESCRIPTION:Graduate school involves many conversations that no one really
teaches you how to have: How do you explain your research to someone out
side your field? Approach someone at a conference? Make professional smal
l talk? Ask a supervisor for something you need?\n\nConversation Hour is
designed to provide multilingual graduate students with an opportunity to
practice conversational English in a supportive\, low-stakes environment
. Each monthly session focuses on a different academic or professional sc
enario\, with opportunities to learn useful expressions\, exchange strate
gies\, and—most importantly—practice talking with others. Whether you wan
t to feel more comfortable speaking English or simply meet and converse w
ith other graduate students\, you are welcome!\n\nSession Topic:\n“Could
I Ask You Something?”: Making Requests & Navigating Professional Conversa
tions\nPractice asking for help or feedback\, making requests\, communica
ting with advisors and supervisors\, saying no professionally\, and handl
 ing potentially awkward conversations.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/332
