SUMMARY:Chemistry Seminar: Mary Watson (University of Delaware)
LOCATION:Funger Hall 103\, 2201 G Street\, NW
DESCRIPTION:Please join the GW Department of Chemistry for a seminar featu
ring Mary Watson\, professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemis
try at the University of Delaware. Watson will discuss "Deaminative Cross
-Couplings."\n\nSeminar Details\n\nThe ubiquity of alkyl amines and the e
ase of their synthesis makes them attractive precursors fora variety of t
ransformations. In contrast to their classical use as starting materials
for complex nitrogen-containing products\, we have developed a suite of d
eaminative methods to convert primary amino groups (NH2) into various car
bon substituents via Katritzky pyridinium saltintermediates. Our recent p
rogress will be discussed\, including enantioselective and difunctionaliz
ation reactions\, along with peptide macrocyclization strategies\n\nhttp:
