SUMMARY:FIU Quantum Distinguished Lecture: Excitonic Topological Quantum S
tates and Route to Realize Charge Neutral Quantum Superfluidity
LOCATION:EC - Engineering Center EC 2300\, 10555 W Flagler ST\, Engineerin
 g Center\, Miami\, Florida 33174
DESCRIPTION:The excitonic insulator\, an insulating phase formed by the sp
ontaneous condensation of bound electron–hole pairs\, has been sought for
over half a century. Dr. Hossain will present the first unambiguous real
ization of a topological excitonic insulator in a three-dimensional topol
ogical quantum material. Using scanning tunneling microscopy\, angle-reso
lved photoemission spectroscopy\, and theoretical modeling\, his team sho
ws that Coulomb-driven exciton condensation opens a full bulk gap below ~
100 K\, and that this gap hosts gapless topological boundary modes. Below
  5 K\, a second\, field-tunable excitonic instability emerges at finite m
omentum. These phases point to a bulk-crystal route to topologically prot
ected quantum channels\, coherent quantum transduction\, and field-tunabl
 e quantum optoelectronic devices.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/39781ab3
