LOCATION:Rosen Concert Hall\, Broyhill Music Center
DESCRIPTION:Appalachian Chorale presents John Rutter's Requiem\n\nTuesday\
 , November 10\, 2026\, 8:00pm\, Rosen Concert Hall - Free Admission\n\nTh
 e Appalachian Chorale\, directed by Dr. James Douthit\, begins its 51st y
ear of performances with the Requiem written by British composer John Rut
ter. For 50 years the Appalachian Chorale has combined forces with commun
ity singers and Hayes School of Music Students to present choral masterwo
rks to the High Country.\n\nABOUT THE MUSIC\n\nJohn Rutter’s Requiem\, co
mpleted in 1985\, is one of the most widely performed contemporary settin
gs of the Requiem. Rather than setting the traditional Roman Catholic Req
uiem Mass in its entirety\, Rutter combines portions of the Latin liturgy
with English biblical texts\, creating a work that moves from grief and
 uncertainty toward consolation\, light\, and peace.\n\nRutter dedicated t
he Requiem to the memory of his father. Its deeply personal character\, m
emorable melodies\, and blend of ancient liturgical texts with familiar E
nglish scripture have made the work especially meaningful to performers a
nd audiences for more than four decades.\n\nABOUT THE APPALACHIAN CHORALE
\n\nThe Appalachian Chorale brings together Appalachian State University
students and members of the surrounding community to perform significant
choral repertoire. Through weekly rehearsals and public performances\, th
e ensemble provides singers from a wide range of musical backgrounds the
opportunity to participate in the university’s choral community and to ex
