SUMMARY:Certificate in College Teaching: Designing for Attention: Challeng
e\, Power\, and AI in College Teaching
LOCATION:O'Neill Library 250\, O'Neill Library\, 140 Commonwealth Ave\, Ch
 estnut Hill\, MA 02467\, USA
DESCRIPTION:AI can let students outsource the very struggle that learning
requires. This session centers learning as an issue of attention. Attenti
on is a limited\, unevenly distributed resource we cultivate rather than
assume. If learning lives in effortful\, "desirably difficult" work\, how
do we design courses so students spend their attention there? And\, thro
ugh the lens\, whose attention are we asking for\, on whose terms\, and w
hen does "productive struggle" tip into "undesirable difficulty"? We'll l
ook briefly at concrete design challenges at three levels (the course\, t
he class session\, and the assignment)\, and then draw on a range of your
disciplines to trade strategies.\n\nThis is one of the elective workshop
s for the Certificate in College Teaching (CCT) Program. Those who miss m
ore than ten minutes of a session will not receive CCT Program credit for
that workshop.\n\nAccommodation Requests\n\nThe Center for Teaching Exce
llence is committed to providing equal access to its events and programs.
Individuals with disabilities who anticipate needing accommodations or w
ho have questions about access may contact centerforteaching@bc.edu.\n\nh
