SUMMARY:African Futures Seminar Series
LOCATION:Devlin 110 110\, 140 Commonwealth Ave.\, Chestnut Hill\, MA 02467
DESCRIPTION:Annual Theme\n\nGovernance\, Peace\, and Moral Authority in a
Changing Africa\n\nSeries Overview\n\nThe African Futures Seminar Series
(AFSS) is a three-year interdisciplinary initiative (2026–2029) led by fa
culty from Boston College’s African and African Diaspora Studies (AADS)\,
Department of Political Science\, Department of History\, and Department
of Sociology. The series addresses a persistent gap in U.S. liberal arts
education: the limited presence of sustained\, Africa-centered scholarly
programming that foregrounds African perspectives while engaging major g
lobal and comparative debates. At a moment when Africa’s role in a multip
olar world is increasingly central to questions of governance\, peace\, c
limate change\, migration\, and global justice\, AFSS responds to an urge
nt pedagogical and intellectual need. It will establish a permanent\, ins
titutionally embedded seminar platform that brings together research\, te
aching\, student engagement\, and public scholarship.\n\nOver three acade
mic years\, AFSS will be organized around a coherent thematic progression
: Year One (2026–2027) focuses on Governance\, Peace\, and Moral Authorit
 y in a Changing Africa\, including Africa in a multipolar world\, alterna
tive political economy models\, technology and political change\, and fai
th-based approaches to peacebuilding\; Year Two (2027–2028) centers on Id
entity\, Inclusion\, and Social Transformation\, with seminars on women i
n politics and peace\, youth and democratic futures\, migration and diasp
 ora dynamics\, \n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/498e7fce-d0dc-40aa-8b31-2c
