SUMMARY:Mathematics Club November 5th
LOCATION:STEM AG1133
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Mathematics Club for the 6th meeting of the seme
ster. We will be meeting at room 1133 in Govil Hall at the STEM+Ag comple
x at 5pm. The postdoc Dr. John Cobb will be giving a talk titled: Art\, D
oodles\, and Geometry. Come listen to the talk and enjoy some pizza.\n\nA
bstract: I will explore how ideas inspired by drawings connects to deeper
mathematics. We’ll start by investigating and answering some natural que
stions coming from a doodle that many of us have done. I’ll use these que
stions to motivate the rise of perspective drawing in art and the corresp
onding development of projective geometry in math\, and will touch on the
mathematics of moduli spaces and medical imaging.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.ap
