SUMMARY:Japanese Ensemble: From Traditional to Modern
LOCATION:Imig Music Ensemble Hall (S134)\, 1020 18th Street\, Boulder\, CO
  80309
DESCRIPTION:Our Japanese Ensemble is dedicated to hands-on learning of mus
ic and dance from many regions of Japan.\n\nJapanese music is typically b
ased on songs that reflect styles of Japanese poetry sung in lines of fiv
e or seven syllables. Song lyrics evoke images of landscapes\, seasons\,
weather\, animals and legendary figures of Japan to illustrate Shinto rel
igious ideals of harmony between the gods and human beings in nature—as w
ell as Buddhist themes of the transient nature of existence in this world
.\n\nTraditional instruments studied by the group include the shamisen (t
hree-string\, plucked lute)\, shinobue (transverse bamboo folk flute) and
taiko (double-headed\, barrel-shaped\, stick-struck drums of various siz
 es).\n\nFor complete information visit cupresents.org\n\nhttp://next-to-u
