SUMMARY:Eco-Social Realism
LOCATION:Rowan University Museum of Contemporary Art
DESCRIPTION:Eco-Social Realism\nNovember 2 - December 19\, 202\nRUMOCA at

 r Buck\, Carolina Caycedo\, Federico Cuatlacuatl\, Alicia Grullon\, Aisli
nn Pentecost Farren and Karyn Olivier.\nOpening Reception Thursday\, Nove
 mber 5th\, 5 - 7 PM - Let us know you are coming!\n\nEco-Social Realism b
egins with a pressing question: if climate change is also a crisis of ima
gination\, as Amitav Ghosh has suggested\, what role can artists and medi
a makers play in helping us see\, feel\, and politically inhabit the bior
egions we already occupy? (Ghosh\, 2016)\n\nThe artwork on view here pres
ents narratives of real places in Mexico\, Colombia and the United States
as well as images and visual culture that challenge those territorial sc
ales and constraints. Play\, beauty\, and fantasy are used to subvert top
ics that might otherwise be difficult to enter into\, while deep explorat
ions of material culture and language offer their own points of entry.\n\
nEco-Social Realism brings together artworks by past participants in the
Eco-Social Series that show an increased interest in infrastructural and
bioregional practices that can visualize and embody the territorial scale
of both problems and solutions related to the climate crisis.\n\nRowan U
niversity Museum of Contemporary Art is part of a regional exhibition ser
ies that grows out of the ongoing Eco-Social Series which has been co-spo
nsored by RAIR\, Green Sun and Making Worlds books since 2023. The exhibi
