SUMMARY:AMR Seminar: Georgina Cox\, University of Guelph\, ON Canada
LOCATION:College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University LH3 or Zoom\
 , 606 Tower Road\, Ithaca
DESCRIPTION:Cornell Center for Antimicrobial Resistance Research & Educati
on Fall Seminar Series 2026\n\nTitle: Systematic Dissection of the Escher
ichia coli Drug Efflux Network\n\nSpeaker Bio: Dr. Cox is an Associate Pr
ofessor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Molecular and Cell
ular Biology at the University of Guelph (Ontario\, Canada)\, where she l
eads a research group focused on understanding and countering antibiotic
resistant pathogens. With nearly 20 years of experience in antimicrobial
resistance\, Dr. Cox earned her PhD from the University of Leeds (UK) and
completed a postdoctoral fellowship under Dr. Gerry Wright at McMaster U
niversity before founding her laboratory in 2017. Her current program exp
lores complex aspects of bacterial physiology in combination with cutting
edge drug discovery to ultimately combat pathogenic bacteria\; specifica
lly\, her group investigates novel approaches to control bacterial infect
ions by inhibiting adhesion to the host and studies Gram negative efflux
pumps to elucidate substrate specificities\, physiological functions\, an
d origins—insights that inform future drug discovery efforts and antibiot
ic stewardship. Dr. Cox has received several awards\, including the Canad
ian Society of Microbiologists ThermoFisher Award\, and she chaired the 2
026 Gordon Research Conference on New Antibacterial Discovery and Develop
 ment.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/54105b4a-4907-4e5e-a46c-b032fdc7cce0
