SUMMARY:Lecture: "Physics in Bioaerosol Detection and Characterization"
LOCATION:Freeman Hall 103\, Rose Hill Campus\, Fordham University\, Bronx\
 , NY 10458
DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker: Dr. Yongle Pan is a world recognized leader in
aerosol detection & characterization. Since 2009\, he serves as a Researc
h Physicist at the DEVCOM-US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) where he was
elected an ARL Fellow in 2013 - an honor reserved for the most eminent sc
ientists and engineers in the organization. Before ARL\, Dr. Pan spent ne
arly a decade as a Senior Research Scientist at Yale University (2001-200
 9) and was a tenured Associate Professor at Fudan University (1995-1999).
He earned his Ph.D. in Laser Physics and Optics from East China Normal U
niversity (1993). Dr. Pan's pioneering work focuses on real-time\, in-sit
u point-detection technologies. Utilizing advanced laser spectroscopic me
thods\, his research allows us to rapidly detect and identify biological
and chemical aerosol particles within complex atmospheric environments. H
 e contributed over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles\, 3 book chapters\,
and 13 US patents\, earning more than 6\,000 citations. He has led more
than 20 major initiatives and mentored a generation of upcoming scientist
s.\n\nAbstract: Atmospheric aerosol particles play a critical role in glo
bal climate dynamics and public health. Consequently\, the detection and
characterization of aerosol particles—particularly those originating from
biological and chemical agents—has become increasingly crucial across di
verse scientific disciplines in both outdoor and indoor environments. Thi
s presentation explores the application of fundamental physics\n\nhttp://
