out them\n\nSpeaker: Xiaoyu He\, Georgia Tech\n\nTitle: AI Risks and what
mathematicians can do about them\n\nAbstract: This talk aims to give an
overview of the state of AI progress and scaling laws\, and the risks (bo
th immediate and long-term) that human civilization faces as a result. Th
ese risks range from the misuse of AI capabilities in cyber\, bio\, and p
ersuasion\, to the inexorable trend towards gradual disempowerment\, to e
xistential risks of full AI takeover and extinction. I will lightly surve
y progress on the three major directions that we can contribute to as mat
hematicians and individuals: theoretical AI alignment\, empirical AI safe
ty\, and AI pause advocacy.\n\nHost: Samuel Spiro (sspiro@gsu.edu)\n\nhtt
