SUMMARY:Ten for Teaching: Instituting flexible course policies that suppor
 t all learners (ASYNCHRONOUS)
DESCRIPTION:During the COVID-19 pandemic many educators loosened their cou
rse policies (e.g.\, around attendance and late work). Several years late
r\, some of that flexibility has remained\, with educators noting both po
sitive and negative impacts on student learning. This dichotomy leads man
y of us to wonder what the right balance of flexibility is. In this works
hop\, we will begin by exploring the demographics of Boise State students
and how those might impact the choices we make. In addition\, you will h
ave the opportunity to discuss your thoughts and assumptions about course
policies\, review different policy models\, and consider what policies b
est support your students' learning.\nBy the end of the workshop\, you sh
ould be able to:\n-- Summarize key demographics about Boise State student
s\n-- Articulate your own beliefs related to attendance\, late work\, gra
ding\, and other course policies\n-- Evaluate the benefits and drawbacks
of various course policies\n-- Identify policies you’d like to use to sup
port your students’ learning\, informed by your situational factors\n\nWo
rkshops in the Ten for Teaching series focus on essential classroom teach
ing skills. These workshops are aligned with the outcomes of the CTL’s Ev
idence-Based Teaching Certificate and support instructors in building the
skills they need in order to earn the certificate.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTE: Th
is workshop will run for one week (Mon-Fri) and is designed for you to sp
end 20-40 minutes per day (slightly different each day) engaging with wo\
