LOCATION:Employee Learning Space (Lommasson building 2nd floor)
DESCRIPTION:Attunement as Advocacy: Building a Secure Cultural Base for Na
tive Student Flourishing\n\nThis session offers an advanced exploration i
nto creating transformative mentorship relationships with Native students
. Led by Professor Ciara Hansen\, Director of INPSYCH\, we will use Attac
hment and Developmental Theories to understand the fundamental human need
for a Secure Base and a Safe Haven—reframing these concepts through a le
ns of cultural humility and historical awareness.\n\nA central focus of t
his session is mentor self-reflection\, specifically exploring the concep
t of “The Historical Echo.” Participants will explore how persistent\, in
ternalized influences from dominant cultural frameworks\, unexamined assu
mptions\, and institutional history shape perceptions and can lead to mis
-attunement in cross-cultural mentoring.\n\nGenuine attunement is a vital
form of advocacy—helping to break down historical barriers and create sp
aces of profound cultural safety. We will discuss practical ways to recog
nize and respond sensitively to the unique needs of Native students\, ens
uring that the mentorship dynamic fosters genuine trust\, resilience\, an
 d academic flourishing.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/7954dda6-77de-4f78
