SUMMARY:The Agora Dialogue: Family Planning\, Fertility\, and Public Polic
 y
LOCATION:Keller 1022
DESCRIPTION:The Agora Dialogue: Family Planning\, Fertility\, and Public P
olicy\n\nHosted by The Agora in collaboration with Behavioral Economics a
nd Public Policy (BePP)\, this event will feature Leonard M. Lopoo\, Prof
essor at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public A
ffairs and author of Wanting Children: Family-Planning Policies and the E
ngineering of America’s Population (University of Chicago Press\, 2026).\
n\nBuilding on The Agora’s previous dialogue on declining birth rates and
global fertility trends\, the event will explore the history and design
of family-planning policies\, the role of government in shaping populatio
n outcomes\, and the trade-offs between public policy objectives and indi
vidual autonomy. Drawing on perspectives from public policy\, economics\,
sociology\, and behavioral science\, participants will examine how insti
tutions\, economic incentives\, and social conditions influence family fo
rmation and reproductive decisions.\n\nThe session will combine a present
ation of Lopoo’s research with a moderated\, interactive discussion and a
udience Q&A. Designed primarily for Harris graduate students\, the event
will encourage evidence-based dialogue across disciplines and provide an
opportunity to connect historical policy experiences with contemporary ch
allenges in fertility\, family policy\, and population change.\n\nhttp://
