SUMMARY:Radial aromatics\, metal-metal bonds\, and anion receptors all und
 er one roof
LOCATION:Sterling Chemistry Laboratory SCL 110\, 225 Prospect Street\, New
  Haven\, CT 06511
DESCRIPTION:Please join Yale Chemistry for a Silliman Seminar in inorganic
chemistry seminar with Prof. Raúl Hernández Sánchez\, Norman Hackerman W
elch Young Investigator and Assistant Professor at Rice University.\n\nSu
mmary: Macrocyclic arene compounds have played a fundamental role in the
development of supramolecular chemistry. Research on these systems have l
aid the foundations to explore and establish non-covalent interactions\,
 e.g.\, hydrogen bonding\, π···π stacking\, C–H···π interactions. My resea
rch group has taken the basic principles of macrocyclic arenes to design
scaffolds capable of tubularly contorting aromatic systems\, architecture
s enforcing metal–metal interactions towards the activation of small mole
cules\, and frameworks that bind anionic species for environmental remedi
ation\, all while retaining their intrinsic non-covalent interactions. In
this seminar\, I will discuss our progress in each of these areas consta
ntly crossing the boundaries between synthetic organic and inorganic chem
istry\, while inspired to develop novel materials.\n\nBio: Raúl joined th
e Chemistry faculty at Rice in 2022 and is the Norman Hackerman Welch You
ng Investigator Junior Chair. Prior to joining Rice\, Raúl was an Assista
nt Professor from 2018 to 2022 in the Department of Chemistry at the Univ
ersity of Pittsburgh. He was born in Chihuahua\, México. During his under
graduate years Raúl worked intermittently as a research assistant in the
laboratory of Prof. Sossina Haile (Caltech) in the summers of 2007-\n\nht
