SUMMARY:Growing Up In Science @ Stanford
LOCATION:Bass Biology Research Building 122\, 327 Campus Drive\, Stanford\
 , CA 94305
DESCRIPTION:Growing Up in Science (GUIS) is back for the 2026-2027 academi
c year!\n\nIn most sessions\, one faculty member shares the personal side
of their individual journey through academia. Occasionally\, PhD-holding
speakers from outside the academic research environment may also speak.
The stories focus on the struggles\, doubts\, weaknesses\, and failures w
e all face as young scientists. GUIS aims to normalize discussing these p
ersonal and interpersonal challenges\, and supporting one another through
them. There will be no (or minimal) discussion of the speaker's research
.\n\nGUIS seminars are intended for current academic trainees\, including
  undergraduates\, post-bac technicians\, graduate students\, post-docs\,
lab managers\, and other in-training research support staff.\n\nOur event
s are typically held on Fridays from 3-4pm\, with around one speaker sche
duled per month. Please join us in the first floor conference room of the
Bass Biology Research Building (Room 122). Bass is across Campus Dr. fro
m the Clark Center\, and the conference room can be accessed by entering
the doors on the left as you approach from Campus Dr. Snacks and drinks w
 ill be available!\n\nFall 2026 Events:\n\nNovember 6 - Bill Newsome (Neur
