SUMMARY:HMSC Research Seminar-Sleuthing ancient eruptions\, landslides\, a
nd earthquakes—Deciphering how buried trees record geologic and environme
 ntal history in Cascadia
LOCATION:Hatfield Marine Science Center Carmen Ford Phillips Auditorium in
the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building\, 2030 SE Marine Science Dr\,
 Newport\, OR 97365
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:Patrick Pringle\, Research Affiliate\, Mount St. Helen
s Institute\, Prof. Emeritus of Earth Science\, Centralia College\, Washi
ngton\n\nTopic: The presentation will include a description for how tree-
ring dating in Cascadia has contributed to a better understanding of some
significant pre-historical geologic events. We'll examine clues from Ind
igenous stories\, Lewis and Clark\, and tree-rings about Mount Hood’s mos
t recent eruption and the Bonneville landslide in the Columbia Gorge. The
n we'll examine a reanalysis of Mount Rainier’s recent history of eruptio
ns and lahars\, with lessons learned at Mount St. Helens. And finally\, w
e'll look at how landslide-dammed lakes dated by drowned trees have helpe
d date past earthquakes in an around Seattle.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/eve
