SUMMARY:Painting Workshop with Vincent Pomilio
LOCATION:The Curb Center
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This event is only open to students in the CORE class Be
ing Human\, Encountering Others. If you are not taking Being Human\, plea
se see an alternate date HERE.\n\nJoin us at the Curb Center for a hands-
on painting workshop led by Vincent Pomilio\, abstract landscape painter
and featured artist in the Curb Center’s exhibition\, Land Shapes. Pomili
o will introduce participants to his signature technique using Venetian p
laster and pigments on and pre-primed wood panels. Materials and lunch wi
ll be provided.\n\nVincent Pomilio’s Artist Statement:\n\nI primarily wor
k in all painting media\, on canvas\, paper\, or wooden panel. For the pa
st ten years my work has been largely abstract\, always using the Natural
World as my guide. The image evolves through a series of layers\, each o
ne rubbed\, sanded\, or burnished with tools. The image then reveals itse
lf and I intuitively know when to bring it to completion. Some of my work
has a strong landscape feeling as in “Between The River and The Sky.” I
always encourage the viewer to find recognizable shapes and images in my
work. “If you see it\, it is there”. Most of these paintings have an all-
over feeling as if these self-organizing systems continue off the picture
plane. One shape flows from another\, and then another\, until there is
a pulsating energy of interacting elements. Worlds of refined\, chaotic m
ovement are animated by color.\n\nI usually start with an acrylic base an
 d drawing tools\, pencil\, wax crayon\, ink etc. I also use a Kolcaustico
  pla\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/818b4ac2-14be-4c0d-ac56-54ff7649ca78
