 \, NY 10023
DESCRIPTION:Barbara L. Jackson devoted her career to opening doors\, espec
ially for scholars of color seeking a place in the professoriate and in e
ducational leadership. Today\, the Jackson Scholars Network bearing her n
ame has shaped generations of leaders. In this keynote\, Frank Hernandez\
, PhD\, a member of the inaugural cohort of Jackson Scholars and a longti
me Jackson Scholar mentor and dean of education at Texas Christian Univer
sity\, reflects on what it means to build a legacy rather than simply inh
erit one. Drawing on his research on Latino school leaders\, leadership f
or social justice\, and educator sexual misconduct\, as well as his leade
rship of national and state organizations\, Hernandez shares evidence tha
t mentoring changes careers and institutions. He invites school leaders\,
teachers\, and counselors to consider how they can widen the circle that
Jackson began\, including for LGBTQ educators and students\, and what le
