SUMMARY:YQI Talk - André Vallières - Northwestern University
LOCATION:17 Hillhouse Avenue Seminar Room 402\, 17 Hillhouse Avenue\, New
 Haven\, CT 06511
DESCRIPTION:QSET: From the Ground Up\n\nResearch on superconducting quantu
m devices is inherently multidisciplinary\, spanning materials science\,
device physics\, microwave engineering\, and quantum control. In this tal
k\, I trace the development of the Quantum Science\, Engineering\, and Te
chnology (QSET) laboratory at Northwestern University\, from an empty roo
m to an active research laboratory in superconducting quantum circuits. I
discuss my contributions to developing the measurement infrastructure an
d fabrication processes\, with an emphasis on the experimental challenges
involved in designing\, characterizing\, and controlling superconducting
quantum devices. I also highlight collaborative studies carried out at Q
SET over the years to understand how materials\, fabrication processes\,
and interfaces affect superconducting device performance. Finally\, I pre
sent our work on heralded quantum entangling gates in a modular supercond
 ucting platform\, bringing together chip design\, microwave packaging\, a
 nd quantum control.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/845a2aee-e2ce-4982-8cb
