LOCATION:Physical Sciences Building 120\, 245 East Avenue
DESCRIPTION:General Physics Colloquium and Kieval Lecture\, Dr. Anna Grass
ellino\, Fermilab\n\nTitle: From Particle Accelerators to Quantum Compute
rs: Pushing the Frontiers of Superconducting Quantum Technology\n\nHost:
Nigel Lockyer\n\nAbstract: Superconducting technologies have enabled some
of the world's most powerful particle accelerators and are now opening n
ew frontiers in quantum computing and sensing. Advances in materials scie
nce\, microwave engineering\, and cryogenic systems are pushing quantum c
oherence to unprecedented levels\, creating new opportunities to build sc
alable quantum systems. In this talk\, I will trace the evolution from su
perconducting radio-frequency cavities for accelerators to quantum proces
sors and sensors\, highlighting recent breakthroughs in coherence\, three
-dimensional superconducting architectures\, and quantum simulation and s
ensing for fundamental physics. I will discuss the challenges ahead and t
he potential of these technologies to transform scientific discovery.\n\n
