SUMMARY:SPCH Seminar Series: "Advancing Youth Resilience to Wildfire Smoke
Through School-Based Air Quality Monitoring and Education: Research Upda
 te"
LOCATION:https://umontana.zoom.us/meeting/register/kxZL3DvlTTmrMCMwg7wjVA
DESCRIPTION:Wildfire smoke exposure is an increasing public health concern
\, particularly for children and adolescents\, who may experience both sh
ort- and long-term health effects. In Montana\, where wildfire smoke pose
s recurring challenges\, rural and underserved communities may face addit
ional barriers to protecting youth health. This presentation will introdu
ce a developing dissertation focused on improving youth resilience to wil
dfire smoke through three aims: synthesizing evidence on respiratory heal
th outcomes among children exposed to wildfire smoke\, examining indoor a
nd outdoor air quality across Montana schools\, and evaluating a school-b
ased educational program to improve students’ knowledge\, self-efficacy\,
and health behaviors during wildfire smoke events.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.a
