SUMMARY:Semiconductor Nanolaser Particles for Highly Multiplexed Single-Ce
 ll Tracking and Sensing
LOCATION:Oconnor
DESCRIPTION:Featuring:\n\nSangyeon (Fred) Cho\, Ph.D.\, Assistant Professo
r\, Department of Bioengineering\, CPRIT Rising Star Scholar\, Rice Unive
 rsity\n\nWebsite: https://cholab.rice.edu\n\nAbstract:\n\nDynamic cellula
r heterogeneity shapes cancer progression\, immune responses\, and therap
eutic outcomes\, yet tracking individual cell histories remains a major c
hallenge. Conventional fluorescent labels are limited by broad emission s
pectra and spectral overlap\, while DNA barcodes require destructive read
 out.\n\nIn this seminar\, I will introduce nanolaser particles\, intracel
lular optical probes engineered from semiconductor gain materials and opt
ical microcavities that generate ultra-narrow laser emission\, enabling t
housands of unique optical identities. I will discuss semiconductor mater
ials design\, scalable nanofabrication\, and Laser Particle Stimulated Em
ission (LASE) microscopy for long-term single-cell tracking and sensing i
n vitro and in vivo. I will also highlight emerging applications in cellu
lar sensing. Finally\, I will present our recent development of plasmonic
nanolasers measuring approximately 115 nm\, demonstrating extreme optica
l confinement and opening new opportunities for miniaturized coherent lig
ht sources and nanoscale biological barcoding and sensing.\n\nhttp://next
