SUMMARY:Brown Bag Series - What Activates Citizens to Engage with Governme
nt? Evidence from Experimental and Qualitative Data
LOCATION:Ferré Institute Classroom (SIPA II\, Room 260)\, 11200 SW 8 Stree
 t\, Miami\, FL 33199
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation exploring what motivates citizens t
o take part in local decision-making. Drawing on survey experiments\, foc
us groups and interviews conducted in Milan\, Italy\, this research exami
nes how the design of public forums can encourage—or discourage—civic par
ticipation. How much does having real decision-making power matter? Are p
eople more likely to participate online or in person? The findings reveal
important tradeoffs between accessibility and active engagement and offe
r new insights into how governments can foster more meaningful public par
ticipation.\n\nTo RSVP\, please send an email to: calyc@fiu.edu\n\nhttp:/
