SUMMARY:Colloquium - Aida Behmard’s “The Planet-Star-Galaxy Connection”
LOCATION:Bryant Space Science Center Room 217\, Bryant Space Science Cente
 r Room 217
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Aida Behmard\, Flatiron Institute\n\nTitle: The Plane
t-Star-Galaxy Connection\n\nAbstract: With our current wealth of astronom
ical data\, we have advanced from studying individual exoplanet systems t
o planet demographics. The next frontier is mapping planets on Galactic s
cales. I will discuss how to move forward by combining large surveys (Rom
 an\, Gaia DR4\, SDSS\, PLATO) with both traditional and next-generation s
tellar characterization techniques (i.e. data-driven/ML frameworks) to ex
amine the planet-star connection across thousands of planets and millions
of stars. I will summarize how I use this approach to measure key proper
ties for planet host stars in the solar-like and M dwarf regime\, the dom
inant stellar population of our Galaxy. By linking host star properties t
o planet demographics trends\, I am able to probe the formation and dynam
ical evolution of planet populations (e.g. the Neptune desert\, Earth-lik
e planets) across different Galactic regions. Near- and far-future survey
s like PLATO and HWO will expand our reach to more Earth analogs\, motiva
ting precursor science on planetary system habitability and its connectio
ns to the Galactic environment.\n\n12:45 PM - 1:45 PM\n\n217 Bryant Space
