SUMMARY:CCB Seminar along with CBI Program: Matthew Moschitto (Rutgers)
LOCATION:Baker Lab 119\, 259 East Ave\, Ithaca\, NY 14850\, USA
DESCRIPTION:"How Putting Out Fires in Baker Led to a Career in Radical Org
anosulfur Chemistry and Drug Discovery"\n\nMatthew Moschitto is an assist
ant professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the Ernest Mari
o School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University. Matt obtained his Bachelor of
Science degree from Bates College in Lewiston\, Maine before moving to C
ornell University for his Ph.D. in Chemistry. While at Cornell\, he worke
d under the supervision of Chad Lewis on the synthesis of various natural
products. In 2016\, he moved to Northwestern University as a postdoctora
l fellow to work with Richard Silverman on the synthesis and evaluation o
f small molecule inhibitors of aminotransferase enzymes for the treatment
of epilepsy\, addiction\, and liver cancer. In 2019 he began his indepen
dent career at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Matt has focused his res
earch on the synthesis and use of sulfonyl fluorides in drug discovery\,
work that spans the fields of synthetic methodology and medicinal chemist
ry. In his free time\, he skis\, hikes\, and canoes with his dog\, Cooper
\, who always resides in a high energy conformation.\n\n*This event is su
