SUMMARY:Emergent Properties: Decennial Reflections on Collections
LOCATION:David Rumsey Map Center (Green Library)\, 557 Escondido Mall\, St
 anford\, CA 94305
DESCRIPTION:In 2026 the David Rumsey Map Center celebrates its tenth year—
a moment to reflect on how the Center has added value to scholarship on c
ampus and around the world. Our collections are vast and not bounded by g
eography\, spanning the 15th century to the present. Yet over the last de
cade\, certain materials have repeatedly resonated with the students\, in
structors\, and researchers who frequent the Center. Emergent Properties
brings together a selection of highlights from deep within the collection
s of the David Rumsey Map Center: items that have not only proven to be r
are or beautiful\, but have become the drivers of scholarship\, programmi
ng\, and support areas that have resonated with our users. The forty obje
cts in this exhibition represent these emergent properties. Though only a
glimpse into the full breadth of the Center’s holdings\, they reflect wh
at has mattered most over the past ten years.\n\nJoin us for an exhibitio
n reception on Friday\, November 20 at 3pm. The reception will feature a
tour of the exhibition by David Rumsey Map Center staff. Please register
to attend.\n\nThe exhibition will be on display at the David Rumsey Map C
enter within Green Library through Friday\, March 5\, 2027.\n\nhttp://nex
