SUMMARY:Ethics Roundtable - "The Ethics of Cultural Memory: Who Decides Wh
at Music Is Remembered?" featuring Ethics Fellow Pamela Chaddon
LOCATION:Dwire Hall 204
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn from Ethics Fellow Pamela Chaddon\, Finance a
nd HR Professional in the Visual and Performing Arts Department\, about “
The Ethics of Cultural Memory: Who Decides What Music Is Remembered?”\n\n
Register Here\n\nDescription: What we choose to teach\, perform\, preserv
e\, and promote determines what and whose music becomes part of our colle
ctive cultural memory. This project looks at the ethical questions behind
how the Western classical music canon is shaped and how educators\, perf
 ormers\, arts organizations\, broadcasters\, and increasingly\, algorithm
s and digital platforms influence what music is taught\, performed\, reco
 rded\, funded\, promoted\, and preserved.\n\nStudents often encounter the
classical canon as though it were simply a reflection of artistic merit.
This project challenges that assumption by examining the historical\, so
cial\, economic\, and institutional forces that influence what becomes pa
rt of our cultural memory. Every inclusion and omission contributes to th
e musical history that future generations inherit.\n\nThrough a roundtabl
 e discussion\, faculty\, staff\, students\, and community members will co
nsider the ethical responsibilities that come with making decisions about
repertoire\, curriculum\, and artistic programming. While the project fo
cuses on classical music\, these questions apply across the arts. As tech
nology and digital platforms play a growing role in the arts\, we have an
opportunity to think about how we can make choices thoughtfully and resp
 onsibly\, and\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/9f06a2a2-5eb6-4a50-9ab2-8ab7
