SUMMARY:First Friday Jam 03
LOCATION:Steinhardt - Room 985
DESCRIPTION:ur music therapy jam event is open to all levels of musicians\
, including those who have never played an instrument. We start by easing
the transition into a new space with warm\, inviting musical games and s
tructures which foster coregulation\, a sense of fun or humor\, and findi
ng comfort in uncertainty or newness.\n\nIt is a strong principle of comm
unity music therapy\, that music is a human right\, but that\, depending
on our upbringing or situation\, we may lose contact with resources for a
ccessing music. The Music Therapy Club wishes to bridge that divide on ca
mpus and create more opportunities for musicing with others.\n\nIn additi
on\, we wish to provide a space\, outside of class\, where students can p
ractice what they’re learning\, whether that’s a music therapy or perform
ance focus. Engaging in social music making\, apart from assignments or o
bligatory meetings and roles is a nourishing way to connect to self\, com
munity\, and the wholesome practice of music for enjoyment or spiritual c
onnection.\n\nFinally\, we believe that making music together can be a wa
y to strengthen community in a manner that verbal socializing or parties
can sometimes fall short\, especially for people who have alternate socia
l styles or communication styles.\n\nAlthough there are other jams and mu
sic events held on campus\, the music therapy students bring a particular
\, informed method of facilitation which can make music seem more accessi
ble.\n\nThe events are held on the first Friday of each month\, from 6p-9
