SUMMARY:Cao Fei: Duotopia Vol. 1 and Vol. 2
LOCATION:Memorial Art Gallery\, 500 University Avenue\, Rochester\, NY 146
 07
DESCRIPTION:MAG presents two related short videos by leading Chinese artis
t Cao Fei. These works\, created within a metaverse platform known as Yua
nbang Meta City\, unveil the ongoing development of Duotopia\, a futurist
ic roving city that appears to be supported by a tentacled avatar named O
 z. Cao Fei draws the titles from “多 (duō)\,” which means “numerous” in Ma
ndarin Chinese\, referring to the many possible futures and future utopia
 s that aren’t limited to a single outcome.\n\nThe videos are self-referen
tial in their making\, as Cao Fei used machinima\, a filmmaking technique
that employs graphic engines and environments from 3D video games to pro
 duce these animations.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/a8e681e8-7f52-4ceb-
