SUMMARY:Bioethics and Bites Event
LOCATION:Brockman Hall 101
DESCRIPTION:Bioethics and Bites is a new\, free dinner event (November 12\
, 6 to 8 PM) that is open to the entire Rice\ncommunity. Over a catered d
inner from Aga’s\, Rice students sit in small groups with professors\, re
searchers\, and bioethicists from\nRice\, Baylor College of Medicine\, an
d the University of Houston\, and talk with them directly about bioethics
  careers\, research\, and\ncurrent issues. Five speakers are confirmed\,
 and we expect 5 to 7 in total.\nPlanned activities:\n1. Small-group table
dinners: Each speaker hosts a table of students\, so every attendee gets
real conversation time with a\nprofessional instead of listening to a le
cture.\n2. Guided discussion: Each table has placards with discussion que
stions on current bioethical issues to get conversations started.\nStuden
ts then steer the discussion toward their own interests.\n3. Career and r
esearch sharing: Speakers describe their research and career paths\, and
students ask questions and make\nconnections for future mentorship or res
earch.\nObjectives:\n1. Give about 50 Rice students direct access to bioe
thics professionals they would not otherwise meet\n2. Help students explo
 re bioethics as a field\, including careers in medicine\, law\, research\
, and policy\n3. Build a community of Rice students who can discuss diffi
cult ethical questions thoughtfully\nTarget audience: All Rice undergradu
ates\, with no prior bioethics background needed. We expect particular in
terest from pre-med\,\npre-law\, and humanities students.\n\nhttp://next-
