SUMMARY:Artist Talk | Holographic Space\, a talk by Charles Ray
LOCATION:Cantor Arts Center Cantor Eastman Auditorium\, 328 Lomita Drive\,
  Stanford\, CA 94305
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an artist talk with renowned sculptor Charles Ray\
, followed by a conversation with Patrick R. Crowley\, Associate Curator
of European Art at the Cantor.\n\nFor over fifty years\, Charles Ray has
worked towards the limits of sculpture\, exploring how the transformation
of space can change a viewer's relationship to an object. Ray will refle
ct on his work over the decades\, including his 16mm film Fashions (1996)
\, which is currently on view in Solid Pictures.\n\nCurated by Patrick R.
Crowley\, Solid Pictures is the first major exhibition to explore the ov
erlooked 1859 photosculptures of French artist and inventor François Will
ème\, whose experiments translating photographic negatives into three-dim
ensional figures lay the groundwork for modern 3D scanning and printing t
echnologies.\n\nCrowley will join Ray in conversation to discuss how Ray’
s broader practice connects to the questions in the exhibition around thr
ee-dimensionality\, consumerism\, and how clothing and fashion sit within
the perceptual understanding of a figure.\n\nAll public programs at the
Cantor Arts Center are always free! Space for this program is limited\; a
dvance registration is recommended. Those who have registered will have p
 riority for seating.\n\nRSVP here.\n\nAbout the Artist\n\nCharles Ray (b
