SUMMARY:Photography in England Interest Session
LOCATION:MJ 118
DESCRIPTION:Photography in England is a program led by Dr. David Horan to
Canterbury\, England\, which covers topics of English photography and pho
tographic history. Please join us for this interest session to learn more
about this program.\n\nPhotography in England Description:\nPhotography
made its entry to the world of visual arts in 1829. Shortly thereafter\,
photographers began to make impressions of their immediate environments.
Soon afterwards\, photographers spread throughout the world documenting t
he wonders of the world in Egypt\, the Middle East\, and India. The quest
ion arose as to whether we should make the camera “see” as our eyes see t
he world\, or whether we should allow the camera to “see” the world in it
s own particular way. In this course\, we will be hosted by The Universit
y of Kent. We will travel to various towns and historically significant s
ites throughout England where you will gain valuable insights into the he
ritage\, culture\, and artistic aesthetic of the photographic medium.\n\n
Once in Kent\, the independent study class in photography and photo histo
ry will be an opportunity to further expand your understanding of histori
cal and contemporary digital photographic techniques through a project-dr
iven and conceptually significant integration of early photographic lands
cape and portraiture aesthetics with a contemporary medium. You will be s
tudying specific works of photographic art by such photographers as W.H.F
 . Talbot\, Peter Henry Emerson\, Henry Peach Robinson\, Frederick Evan\n\
