SUMMARY:CGS Faculty Fellow Research Talk: Dr. Stine Eckert
LOCATION:Manoogian Hall Auditorium
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Center for Gender and Sexuality for a special
research presentation by 2026-2027 Faculty Fellow Dr. Stine Eckert (Depar
tment of Communication).\n\nAbstract\n\nIn the United States pioneering s
tudies about the representations of the transgender community in news med
 ia (Billard\, 2016\, Capuzza\, 2016\, Fischer\, 2018) and the experiences
of trans and nonbinary journalists (Fischer\, 2025) have been underway.
In contrast\, this group of marginalized journalists remains understudied
in Germany despite a legal recognition of persons who do not identify as
woman or man in the country since 2018. Hence\, this study asks:\n\nHow
do genderqueer journalists in Germany experience their profession?\n\nThi
s qualitative study analyzed how genderqueer journalists in Germany exper
ience their careers and professions and applies intersectionality and sta
ndpoint epistemology as theoretical approaches. Based on interviews with
eight public-service broadcast journalists\, this study finds intersectio
nal inequality\, professional boundary work\, and epistemic exclusion sha
pe these journalists' individual trajectories\, journalistic work process
es\, and the profession at large.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/b8b9fd4d
