SUMMARY:Particle Theory Seminar - Giulia Isabella - Columbia University\,

LOCATION:Sloane Physics Laboratory 51\, 217 Prospect Street\, New Haven\,

DESCRIPTION:Gravitational Scattering Off Compact Objects to all orders in
Perturbation Theory\n\nAt wavelengths large compared to the size of the s
ource\, any compact object admits a point-particle description\, with fin
ite-size corrections encoded by Love numbers. In this talk\, I will discu
ss a novel method for computing gravitational-wave scattering amplitudes
by reinterpreting the Feynman-diagram expansion as a Born series for an e
ffective wave equation. This approach enables efficient and systematic ca
lculations of scattering amplitudes off compact objects\, yielding new pr
edictions for black-hole Love numbers and new analytic results for differ
 ential cross sections.\n\nHost: Ian Moult\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/
