SUMMARY:CCHK Salon: Myth and Origins (CU Music)
LOCATION:A. D. White House\, 29 East Ave\, Ithaca\, NY 14850\, USA
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Verity Platt and Athena Kirk from the de
partment of Classics\, this program centered on myth—through figures such
as Dido\, Orpheus\, and other ancient characters—explores the roots of W
estern civilization\, where many ideas about love\, loss\, heroism\, fate
\, memory\, sacrifice\, and the relationship between humans and the divin
e first took shape.\n\nAt the same time\, these myths are not only “Weste
rn” stories. Their themes can be recognized across many cultures\, where
similar figures and narratives speak about exile\, death\, music\, transf
ormation\, creation\, and the search for meaning. In this way\, myth beco
mes a bridge rather than a boundary: a way to understand the origins of W
estern values while also opening a wider dialogue about shared human ques
tions and the many ways different cultures have imagined where we come fr
 om.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/c4b2747a-2c07-43ef-a133-c893041d929d
