 such as excitement\, guilt\, shame\, confusion and pride. The group empha
 sizes building community supports and sharing resources. The group is lea
 d by a licensed clinical social worker\, Rashidat\, who was a first-gener
 ation college graduate along with a first-gen graduate student in a BU co
 unseling program.\n\nWhat does it mean to be first-generation at Boston U
 niversity?\n\nFirst-Generation College Student (FGCS):\n\nA student in th
 e first generation of their family to go to college (i.e.\, a student who
 se parents/guardians/caregivers did not earn bachelor’s degrees\, althoug
 h elder siblings and cousins may be attending college already or have ear
 ned four-year degrees).\n\nFirst-Generation Graduate/Professional Student
  (FGGS/FGPS):\n\nA student who is in the first-generation of their famili
 es to pursue an advanced degree (i.e.\, a student whose parents/guardians
 /caregivers did not earn a master’s\, doctorate\, or professional degree\
