SUMMARY:Visiting Artist Lecture: Julia Oldham
LOCATION:Schulich Lecture Hall (SLH) 2
DESCRIPTION:Working in a range of digital media\, Julia Oldham visualizes
the uneasy collision of nature and technology in a fragile world. She doc
uments extant environments such as the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukrain
e\, clear cut forests in Oregon\, and swaths of derelict wilderness in Ne
w York City\, and she also builds fictional worlds through drawing and an
imation. With tenderness and humor\, Oldham explores her own conflicting
feelings about human progress through her narrative works\, envisioning s
peculative futures and exploring scientific history. The final works take
the form of video installations\, sound works and print projects. Her pr
actice is research intensive\, frequently involving scientists as collabo
rators.\n\nPlease join us for the closing reception of Without Mountains
and Rivers Without End\, following Julia Oldham’s lecture in Sheppard Con
temporary from 6:00–8:00 PM. Oldham’s work is currently featured in the e
 xhibition.\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/c9194a0b-0f06-4c25-a526-778980d
