SUMMARY:Inclusive Research Mentoring for Graduate Student and Postdoc Part
icipants (CIMER): Fostering Professional Development AND Building Your Me
 ntoring Philosophy
LOCATION:Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE) E390
DESCRIPTION:A goal of most mentoring situations is to enable the mentee to
identify and achieve both academic and professional outcomes. Though lea
rning to do disciplinary research\, entrepreneurship\, or creative artist
ry is an important academic outcome in mentoring relationships\, there ar
e many other outcomes that will influence a mentee’s future career. Mento
rs should consciously consider and support their mentees to achieve these
other outcomes as well. Finally\, reflecting upon your mentoring relatio
nships is a vital part of becoming a more effective mentor. This is espec
ially important following mentor training so that you can consider how to
implement changes in your mentoring practice based on the training. Refl
ection on your mentoring practice at regular intervals is strongly encour
aged.\n\nPresenters are: Loren Hough\, Associate Professor\, Physics and
 Faculty Director\, Strategic Support\, Graduate School & Preston Cumming\
