LOCATION:Physical Sciences Building 401\, 245 East Avenue
DESCRIPTION:LASSP & AEP Seminar by Joseph Falson (Caltech)\n\nNov 6\, 2026
  10:30 AM\n\n401 Physical Sciences Building\n\n“Interplay between magneti
 c fluctuations\, crystal symmetry\, and superconductivity in ultra-thin m
 etals”\n\nInterplay between magnetic fluctuations\, crystal symmetry\, an
d superconductivity in ultra-thin metals\nAbstract: In this presentation
I will discuss results from a range of thin-film quantum materials where
magnetic field-enhanced or induced superconductivity is observed. These m
aterials include layered intermetallics\, refractory metal oxides\, and k
agome intermetallics. The surprising pervasiveness of this physics has qu
antitative and qualitative impacts on how the critical magnetic field is
used to infer unconventional superconducting characteristics in two-dimen
sional systems. I will also discuss examples of in-situ phase transformat
ions that can be used as a tool control local structural distortions that
are strongly coupled to the emergence of superconductivity.\n\nHosted by
