SUMMARY:AMO Seminar - Dominik Schneble - Stony Brook University
LOCATION:Sloane Physics Laboratory 56\, 217 Prospect Street\, New Haven\,

DESCRIPTION:Quantum Optics without Photons: Exploring Waveguide QED with U
ltracold Atoms\n\nUnderstanding and harnessing light-matter interactions
in novel contexts is central to the development of modern quantum optics
and its applications. One example is the emergent field of waveguide quan
tum electrodynamics (QED)\, which investigates the coupling between quant
um emitters and a one-dimensional photonic reservoir. While recent work h
as observed signatures of non-exponential spontaneous decay\, atom-photon
bound states\, and the enhancement of collective dynamics\, a clean expe
rimental access to such effects generally remains challenging. We approac
h fundamental questions in waveguide QED with a platform of artificial ma
tter-wave emitters in an optical lattice that undergo spontaneous decay b
y emitting single atoms\, rather than single photons. I will introduce th
e unique features of this unconventional platform and present our recent
work on radiative effects at the boundary between atomic physics\, quantu
m optics and condensed-matter physics.\n\nBiography: Dominik Schneble rec
eived his doctorate from the University of Konstanz\, Germany\, in 2002 f
or work in the field of atom optics. He joined Stony Brook in 2005 after
conducting postdoctoral research at the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold
Atoms at MIT. In 2020\, he was elected Fellow of the American Physical So
 ciety.\n\nHost: Nir Navon\n\nhttp://next-to-u.app/events/d27d52b4-0033-40
