 nic crystals — transparent periodic dielectric structures — have been cal
 led "semiconductors for light" in the sense that photons propagate throug
 h them much as electrons propagate through crystalline solids. In the fir
 st part of my talk\, he will show how straining a photonic crystal can ma
 ke photons behave as though they were electrons immersed in a magnetic fi
 eld\, leading to Landau levels for light. In the second part\, he will em
 ploy photonic crystals to explore the scattering properties of highly spa
 tially correlated\, so-called "stealthy-hyperuniform\," disorder.\n\nhttp
